Many of us, starting out with a new passion or career choice think we are unstoppable. We believe we are young, educated, powerful and have all the possible characteristics of being successful and growing exponentially. However, within a few months of the same job, our lives turn into a mundane routine of activities that go clock –wise and in the same pattern day in and day out. How often do you as a writer, artist or freelancer find yourself feeling demotivated, bored, useless or un-enthusiastic about what you do? Of course, if you’re in one of these fields, you’re most likely passionate about your job, but then again specialization in one particular area of work often could result in one getting bored in the long run.
Job rotation at a regular workplace is a common and popular practice for this very reason. It keeps employees motivated and makes them look forward to new learning and experiences, thus training them in a wide range of areas. As a result, the employee is more inclined towards enthusiastically indulging in learning and looks forward to his job, reducing the rate of absenteeism subsequently.
However, people specializing in a particular job such as writing about business, or a particular field might often find themselves bored of their job, and looking for escape. These are a few common ways you could avoid this happening to you.
Firstly, it is important for one to always remember the reason they chose a specific career path or job. By constantly reminding yourself of why you chose to do what you do, you are most likely to remain wanting to do the same job. Intrinsic motivation plays an important role here, so seek what drives you internally and every now and then you could reward yourself with some extrinsic factors too.
Another way to enjoy what you do, no matter how long you’ve been into it, is to be in the right mood. Indulge in activities that you enjoy or that make you happy before you begin work. This will help you be more focused and enthusiastic towards what you are doing, not to forget, playing some of your favorite music can also be a great way of enjoying yourself while at the task!
Lastly, it is extremely important to stay focused and say no to procrastination. Imagine how you will feel once you have completed the job, and get rewarded for it financially or in other forms. Having completed the job will not only be a burden off the shoulder but will also help you feel more accomplished, and therefore accomplish more. The golden rule is to stay focused on your goal and to not waste time, and you’re good to go!
